WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS OF OPERATION?

Harbor Beach Kayak's hours of operation are highly dependent upon the weather and time of year, so always be sure to check the weather or give us a call at (989) 551-1314 before making a trip up to our shop. Our current hours can be viewed on our home page.

I HAVE NEVER KAYAKED BEFORE. IS IT SAFE?

Most of our customers are beginners and many have never kayaked before.  They almost always have a wonderful adventure.  We rent top of the line recreation kayaks that are stable (don’t flip easy) and have a large cockpit area with plenty of leg room so you don’t feel trapped.  It is rare that anyone would flip without fooling around. If you stay inside the protected harbor, waves tend to stay fairly small.

We advise all our customers to keep an eye on the weather and if a storm moves in, get to shore.  If you ever have a problem, get yourself to shore and we will track down the kayak.

The harbor is enjoyed my many people for all kinds of activities. Depending where you go in the harbor, you may encounter some boats or jet skis. Be sure to yield to them and mind their wake.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO KAYAK?

Kayaks come with basic instruction, life jacket and paddle.

It is recommended that you bring:

  • sunglasses (polarized will help you see through the water)
  • water
  • sunscreen
  • water shoes

WHERE DO YOU LAUNCH?

We launch from Lincoln Park in downtown Harbor Beach into the protected harbor of Lake Huron.

DO YOU RUN OUT OF RENTAL KAYAKS?

Sometimes. But it is usually only a short wait before someone returns with a kayak.

DO YOU TAKE CREDIT CARDS?

Yes!

DO YOU TAKE RESERVATIONS?

We can take reservations for groups of 5 or more people. Please make reservations by calling us at 989-551-1314.

CAN I GO IN THE LIGHTHOUSE?

The lighthouse is operated by the Harbor Beach Lighthouse Preservation Society and is open only for scheduled tours and events. Click here to learn more.

HOW OLD IS THE SHIPWRECK?

OLD! The Dorcus Pendell was built in 1884 and was burned in place after running aground in 1914. If you'd like more information, click here.

CAN WE KAYAK WITH KIDS?

Yes.  We have many options to allow you to kayak with your kids.  We believe that it is important for kids to get out on the water and experience nature.  Small kids can sit on an adult’s lap in a single kayak or in the middle of a tandem kayak.  Older kids can share a tandem kayak with an adult or rent their own single kayak.

ARE THERE PLACES TO REST?

Not really, but you can always just take a break from paddling and rest in your kayak.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

We don't recommend it, but you can it if you want to. If so, you will need to sign a release form.

DO YOU RENT CANOES, JET SKIS, PONTOONS, OR OTHER BOATS?

No.  We rent single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and Stand-Up Paddle Boards (SUPs).
